The Melbourne GPO is over 150 years old. It was built in 1861 and is still owned by the Federal government. The Melbourne GPO is a heritage-listed building. The Alto Event space on the top floor creates an environment for beautiful weddings and wedding receptions. If you’re planning your wedding in Melbourne be sure to check out the GPO and Alto. This is the building that is still used to measure distance from the center of Melbourne. You literally can’t be any more central than this!

Heritage Listed Building in the Heart of the City

Located literally in the center of Melbourne, the GPO building is perfectly located to host a city wedding reception. There are many places around the city that are perfect for wedding photography portraits, as well as churches and other venues for weddings.

The GPO building has undergone many transformations and extensions. The first post office was built there in 1841. The design was the result of a competition held by the city. Some of the subsequent redesigns used famous architect Walter Burley-Griffin! The top floor was converted into the Alto Event Space. They have created an amazing environment for weddings and receptions. With seating for up to 150 people, or a cocktail capacity of 400, you can be sure you’ll get everyone at your wedding reception! It’s worth noting that Michelle thinks this is in her top 5 wedding venues of all time.
